Nov. 27, 2024 2:00p.m. - 4:00p.m.

The Victoria Women's Association Presents: Creating Florence: Who Made the Renaissance City?”

Where: Alumni Hall

About this Event: Fifteenth-century Florence was home to a gifted group of artists, writers and patrons whose works are at the heart of the Renaissance. But who created Florence itself?  We’ll see how this Renaissance city evolved out of the coming together of art, politics and architectureseasoned with a dose of sheer good luck—over a period long past the Quattrocento.

About the Speaker: Professor Nicholas Terpstra teaches Renaissance History at the University of Toronto and writes about those living on the margins of its cultural high life: orphans, widows, the poor, and criminals. He is the author of numerous articles and books and has been the recipient of many honours and awards, including the Outstanding Teaching Award at U of T. In addition to his many activities, he currently serves as provost of Trinity College.
