Black History Month | "Beyond Their Years" Film Screening
Where: Isabel Bader Theatre
About this Event: Celebrate Black History Month with a captivating film screening of Beyond Their Years and a thought-provoking panel discussion on the lives of two iconic heroes, Herb Carnegie and Buck O’Neil!
Film Synopsis: Herb Carnegie (hockey) and Buck O’Neil (baseball) were trailblazers but were nonetheless excluded from playing in the highest professional leagues of the sports they loved because of their race. Instead of becoming angry and bitter, they channeled the injustice they both experienced into pioneering work that made their respective sports, and the world, more inclusive.
Beyond Their Years captures the effort put forth by amazing allies of all races who worked in unison towards the long overdue recognition of these two remarkable lives. The film ties together their legacies and what they mean today in a verité style feature that teaches, heals and humanizes.
About the Speakers: The agenda features opening remarks by Victoria University President Rhonda N. McEwen, followed by a panel discussion with Bernice Carnegie, Rane Carnegie, and Michael George, moderated by Brooke Carnegie Chambers.
